Possums Room

AGES: 6 weeks to 2 years

The educators in our Possum’s room care for children aged between 6 weeks to 2 years. In the Possums room we provide a ratio of 1 educator to 4 children, enabling us to create a trusting, warm and nurturing environment.

We are committed to building relationships with the families and children and understand the importance to have open communication with verbal interactions and via our OWNA App.

Our room has a large floor area with carpet/lino and a separate area for meals and messy play (which we love)! There are two sleep rooms with five cots in each.

We share the outdoor area with the Joeys room which includes a large grass area, sand pit, woven hut and mud pit. We have a small garden which allows the children to be hands on and learn about sustainability.

By the age of 20 months children have achieved so many milestones. Children begin to crawl and walk, pick up and manipulate objects, make their first sounds and words, play with objects and toys and explore their environment. It is a very busy and important time in a child’s life, and to achieve all of these skills they need stability, support and encouragement of caring educators who at Woodleigh are all trained in the circle of security.

We have a group program along with a program for each individual child. We do this by observing each child, noting their actions and abilities, their strengths and what challenges they are ready for. The experiences we plan are developmentally appropriate and outcomes are set for the child to work towards.
